The other day I happened to be browsing the official south park website looking for something amusing when I stumbled into the BBS. The first episode of season 8 was, in my opinion, one of the best ! So I began to read the new posted reviews.. Quickly I became disappointed with what I saw. It had quite a few negative reviews… it had many goodones too, but the bad seemed silly. I lot of people complained that it had too much anime. I hardly find that to be true. I felt that they were sequenced perfectly with what a kid would imagine. And in this day and age, a child is more likely gonna use anime style with his imagination since anime is killing American cartoons and comics. Now, here comes this most snooty part of this post: I didn’t find it all that “anime” ;-p Maybe Koreanimation? Can I make that a word? Lol.. Stan and Kenny looked like they could pass for anime… maybe.. They were also the best looking incidentally enough. The others looked more like americanized art. The song in the fight scene was perfect though !! Being the rabid anime/jrock fan that I am, I can really appreciate the humor in it. I mean, its Trey Parker singing Japanese using a fairly decent accent with bad english lyrics mixed in.. “Taisetsu mono protect my balls” gyaahahahaa XD The first part translates, I think, to, “Those are magificent penises over there. They have pubic hair. No wait those are ninjas” or something like that… Kami approves of this song !! very very much ! Great episode… I went on WinMX the other day to see if someone had already encoded that song as an mp3 and was distributing it, but I had no luck =( Then………….. I gained an interesting idea.. I would use my WinMX power to discover the Japanese south park dub (maybe I was just bored as hell). I went to the Japanese website to copy the proper katakana for “south park” and found something even more interesting. The voice actor for Kyle is Kappei Yamaguchi !! I LOVE KAPPEI !! XD For anyone who doesn’t know, he does a lot of drama cd voices as well as tons of anime roles, such as: Inu Yasha, Ranma, little Zenki, Shinpachi from PeaceMaker Kurogane, Daisaku from Giant Robo, and many more !! The only thing is, I couldn’t imagine him being able to pull off a good Kyle. I mean, Kyle is all Matt Stone, you cant be comparable not matter who you are. So I queued up a whole mess of japanese dubbed south park episodes. Here is my review: Theme song is lame and chunky. The lyrics don’t flow and the singer is terrible. The overall dubbing is not half bad but still an obvious dub. I think that the language used was only to fit the lipsync as with english dubs of anime therefore they probably arent the best translations for the dialog. The acting is also minus the feeling needed for say cartman and the others. Like when he says something in a quite amusing way, the Japanese actress just yells it out in her odd voiced Cartman. Its not that bad sounding actually. She probably sounds as close to cartman as a japanese person can get !! Stan is kinda plain (which isnt a bad thing) and sounds like the english version some of the time. Kenny, well, you know… Kyle was the big shocker !! As I said, I couldn’t imagine Kappei as Kyle, but I’ll be god damned if he didn’t sound almost EXACTLY like Matt Stone as Kyle (only a tad higher pitched)!!!! He must have a clamp on his balls to make that high a voice o.o He didn’t do the voice in the movie though… That was disappointing =( So, overall, Im glad I saw the Japanese dub, but it gets too annoying to watch every episode like that. I also checked out the controversial shockwave episodes they were asked to make. Apparently, they had been given complete creative/uncensored freedom and the company (I forgot if it was macromedia or what) ended up not using them because of their content. These two episodes are called Princess and are technically about a stupid looking dog with a stupid theme song. Trust me, its easy to see why they werent used. The first episode showed Princess watching as her owner gets jacked off by his wife who isnt too thrilled with the process.. After about 10 minutes of this, he asks her to use her mouth and well, she does so after complaining then you see the back of her head explode and well, yeeeaaaahh.. its like that.. In the second part, the cops are there and are sympathetic saying it happens all the time with viagra. Then some weird guy comes and says he’s the body checker guy, and the cop says, “Uh the corner?” he nods and the cop points out the body. Then we see the father trying to explain to his son what happened and he runs to follow princess when princess tries to get someone to come into the room where the “body checker guy” is, well, defiling(sp?) the corpse -.-.. It was blech !! and stupidly lame… I mean, I think Ive seen far worse in little depiction/words on south park, but geez…
Is this a bad time to mention that I want some of that stuffed french toast from IHOP that I have yet to try?
